Drive Manager is the software used to manage drives, and make them work. While it would continue to rely on the standard Linux structure, there will be an alias system that would assign letters and numbers to a drive to make them work for the user to have something that they can relate to. This will be especially important if a customer was a Windows 11. The drive manager will link the letter/number to the appropriate location in Linux’s file structure. The letters aren’t identified in installations since this is not a common way to install, so the user will just have to address the installation as they need to with accepting defaults. All Senitrus Computers have a minimum of 4 drives all together. The drives will be as follows:
- A:/ (SD Card Reader)
- B:/ (Micro SD Card Reader)
- C:/ (OS/Applications)
- D:/ (Files)
- E:/ Senitrus Drive
As a Windows user, you might have noticed that the drive is not using \ for a part of the path. Instead, / is used to allow linux to play nicely with Drive Manager. So let’s assume there are 2 partitions in your SD Card Reader, and you need to access a file on partition 2, your path might look something like A.2:/documents/file.odt. This may look a little like an Internet address, and in some degree, you can think of it that way. The internet is built on the back of Linux, so it would make sense that your URLs will use Linux’s file system.
There are 3 types of networks. There is Home, Trusted, and Untrusted. This is essential when connecting to network drives such as NAS? systems. Home networks are when you are at home, and likely where all of your resources are at. This could include your printer, your TV, your docking station, and so on. Then there is Trusted. This will include family and friend’s networks, and work. Last is untrusted which will include public wifi hotspots, or any wifi router with a captive portal. Home and Trusted networks will allow you to access all of the resources available on the network. However, a trusted network will not be allowed to access your device’s drives. Untrusted networks will make your device undiscoverable, and block any incoming requests unless you initiated. You would also be connected to an VPN which you can turn off if need be. You can have multiple home networks, so if you have a 5G router, that can be your home network as well.
Standard Drives
All OS? installations will assume that you would have 4 drives that would be allocated as above + the E:/ for the Senitrus Drive. If you don’t have all of the drives as noted above, then they system will still reserve those drives as a just in case. However, you should have at least a C:/ and D:/ drive for your computer. I understand that this installation will likely install on notebooks with just 1 drive, but it will still be ideal.
